Now is time to renew your garden plot for 2021.

Think Spring! Now is time for current members to renew your garden plot for 2021.

Watch your email inbox for renewal instructions. Application deadline to renew is Friday March 26, 2021.

2021 brings with it ongoing COVID-19 safety protocols and precautions. All garden specific and publicly mandated rules and precautions must be observed and followed. The pandemic is ongoing so we will need to continue with hygiene and handwashing, reducing exposure through mask wearing and social distancing, and in addition to pay attention to and follow possible developments or updates. All of us have a role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community. Failure to follow safety measures will result in loss of garden privileges.

The 2021 Garden Calendar is still in development, and we are listening to input from gardeners about when are the best days and times to schedule workdays, hands-on demonstrations, or “open office” time to answer questions or consult with individual gardeners about specific areas of concern. More details in your garden renewal email.

Socially Distanced Community Workdays October 10 & 17

Garden members can use this time to complete their volunteer requirements, and community members can join and learn more about our garden while lending a hand in our community greenspace. We’ll be focusing on our composting operations, but also removing invasive plants and weeds, and generally working to get the garden prepped for fall.

In order to keep everyone safe, masks and social distancing are required. Please wear sturdy shoes or boots, and work gloves. Capacity limited to ten persons.

Workdays are Saturdays October 10 and October 17 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Remembering Marilyn Sundstrom

Remembering Marilyn Sundstrom this beautiful Saturday morning.... and remembered this great interview she gave about the North Cass Community Garden.

Marilyn was involved with the development of the NCCG from the very beginning and was one of the greatest champions for this “pie in the sky” garden. You could always count on Marilyn to show up for a “Wine & Weed Wednesday” with bottle opener in hand. She worked hard in the NCCG, knew how to wield a sledge hammer, always looked out for this garden and her neighbors, and took the time to give tours to newcomers. Marilyn was a great neighbor and a huge advocate & volunteer for Detroit... the fact that she was still skiing in her 80’s tells you all you need to know about Marilyn. #badasswoman

On behalf of Midtown Detroit, Inc., we raise our glasses high to this amazing woman!

Time to Get Back to Garden Business!

Hey all existing NCCG gardeners! Please check your email for garden renewal information from Dave our garden manager. Please note that Midtown Detroit, Inc. will be following Governor Whitmer's Stay-at-Home order -- our office will be closed for at least the next 3 weeks. No one will be in the office to answer the phones. We encourage all gardeners to renew by email if at all possible. If you prefer to pay by credit card, we will be processing payments on Fridays. Just indicate on your application that you would like us to call you to process payment over the phone. If you need to pay by cash, please contact Dave at dave@midtowndetroitinc.org. The deadline to renew is APRIL 17. After that time, we will be placing people from the wait list in all available plots.
